Sharing is caring!

Gardening during social isolation is a funny thing. Some days I’m like, leave me alone with my plants! Other days I really miss people. (Some special people I really miss all the time.) Whatever the case, you can find ways to gather safely or at least enjoy these great gardening social media sites in the meantime or anytime!

Check out my list of favorite gardening social media sites! I’ll keep adding to this list as I find more social gardening sites I truly enjoy.

1. Instagram Gardening Tribe

By and large, my favorite place to shoot the breeze about gardening is on Instagram.

The gardening friends I’ve found are truly amazing humans. I feel so much good emanating from them even by these simple social interactions.

Everyone is so friendly, helpful, and the positivity on there is enough to fuel my whole day!

Besides, who wouldn’t want to look at flowers, plants, harvests, animals, seeds, and so many amazing snapshots of life in the garden or on the farm?!

I especially love that you can build your own feed based on the people you follow and taking a peek at their profiles before you click that enticing Follow button.

I’m happy to follow gardeners, homesteaders, and farmers, as well as companies themed on gardening. It builds my Instagram feed into a stress-relief delivering beacon of simple joys whenever I need it!

If you’re on the gardengram, hit me up at @bunnysgardenblog and I’ll follow you back!

I’m truly loving this amazing gardening tribe I’ve found there and it only keeps getting better and better.

2. Facebook Gardening Groups

You’ll find lots of reasons to check out the various Facebook gardening groups. Sure, to pass the time scrolling through things you love, but more than that:

  • Gardening for Beginners – Discover tips you never knew you needed, ask questions, and crowdsource recommendations on products and setups!
  • Seed Swap Groups – This one’s a no-brainer – my first social seed swaps started on Facebook!
  • Specific Groups Based on your Interests – More than likely, you’ll find groups for growing almost any type of plant. You may find groups for propagation, indoor gardening, and so much more. If you can’t find a group that meets your needs, start one!

3. Pinterest for Gardeners

Pinterest continues to be one of the favorite social media platforms. Even gardeners can benefit!

  • Create your own gardening world on Pinterest! Use boards to organize your favorite plants, tasks, and tips for gardening.
  • Build a shared gardening pin board! If you like, create a shared gardening board to collaborate with other gardeners. You can help each other that way!
  • Follow favorite seed shops and add them to a board. This way you can keep track of your preferred places to shop in one place.

4. Twitter for Gardeners

I haven’t used Twitter much as I’ve been so consumed with the other social sites for gardeners.

That being said, I have a few random posts out there and just took a few minutes to scope it out, follow some folks, and tweet about Mystery Seeds Monday.

It’s fun to follow a hashtag on twitter like #gardening or #zinnias or #sunflowers.

You can enjoy seeing stunning gardens, flowers, and plants basically on demand.

Want more? Search another hashtag!

It’s that simple!

If you’re a gardener on Twitter who posts gardening things, please add me – I’d love to follow you back!

5. Seed Swap Reddit

For a casual and low-key approach, head over to Reddit. You won’t be disappointed!

The good-hearted gardeners are already at work, sharing seeds and answering gardening questions.

I never expected to find a seed swap on Reddit but I should have! Reddit has amazingly helpful souls in just about every category you can imagine!

I’ve already enjoyed helpful advice from gymnastics, gardening, and photography subreddits so far! xo

6. Houzz

While I’ve always associated Houzz with “house” or “home,” I recently discovered a vast depth of gardening knowledge that I simply can’t live without!

For instance, several posts on breeding zinnias drew me in and now I’m hooked!

I’ve already bookmarked some pages, made some friendly connections, and plan to consume so much knowledge for a long time to come.

If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out the wise advice from the garden gurus over there on the gardening discussion pages.

7. Garden Stew Forum for Gardening

You can join GardenStew for more helpful gardening advice!

Lots of expert gardeners and amateurs alike, all helping each other with questions, swaps, and sharing beauty from across the miles.

I also love that you can update your status on your profile page! Right now I’m celebrating the fact that we’ve had some warmer days and the epic snowfall is starting to melt – finally!

You can also share your blog link there as well as your gardening zone.

Join GardenStew.com to participate in the forums. I’ll see you over there (xo BunnysGarden)!

8. Garden Savvy Community

Garden Savvy launched its own gardening social media platform that stands apart from the rest. This is truly a social media site exclusively about gardening!

As John Ehrling, president and co-founder of Garden Savvy, put it, “Garden Savvy recently launched the only gardening social media site. It is 100% gardening, 100% of the time. It is a cross between Facebook and Instagram but branded for gardeners.”

That’s all I needed to hear to happily join and create a page for Bunny’s Garden on there!

This gardening social media site allows gardeners to:

  • Chat about gardening in forums
  • Post reviews
  • Share photos
  • Create a page much like Facebook
  • Sync up with a community of gardeners for tips, swaps, and more

I signed up to give it a whirl. I’m excited to see how this might take off! The more the merrier!

By the way, during the signup process, I entered my name, username, and zip code to land in my proper grow zone.

Be aware that signing up puts you on a mailing list. However, you can remove yourself at any time.

You can join groups like Gardening Memes, Garden Beginner, Homesteading, Seed Trading, and more.

Check it out at https://gardensavvy.com/gardening-community/.

9. Dave’s Garden

I remember before kids I spent quite a bit of time reading about lilies and other favorite flowers on the DavesGarden.com forums.

This site is epic and full of advice from tenured gardeners with SO much experience to share!

I highly recommend checking it out and seeing where you fit in.

Help newbie gardeners to get their hands dirty.

Learn the ropes of various plants, flowers, and gardening techniques.

Expand your ever-growing gardening knowledge.

Gardening’s a journey – not a destination!

Final Thoughts: Gardening Social Media Sites

These are my current favorite places to hang out online and binge in some really great gardening photos and discussions.

I love getting instant answers to my gardening question of the day. I love making new gardening friends and swapping seeds to beautify our gardens even further.

Social media is often a love-it or hate-it relationship. I have to say, with gardening topics, I feel empowered to curate my feeds to show more of what I actually care about with MOST of these.

In particular, Instagram is my absolute favorite place to get lost in blissful scrolling and liking. Here’s why:

  • The folks are 100 – pure, genuine gardeners with hearts of gold who really care.
  • Fun seed swaps on several days of the week!
  • Helpful advice, plant seed identifications, troubleshooting, and more
  • Best brainstorming buddies to dream up new gardens and configurations
  • Generally, just getting the warm fuzzies from the new friendships blooming on there.

So, there you have it – my favorite gardening social media sites!

Now let’s hear yours! Sound off in the comments below so we don’t miss out.
