YAY! It's finally time to plant seeds for many of us! What's your favorite seed starting method? In Soil or Soil-less?!

Did you know you can sprout seeds in milk jugs in winter, before it warms up?!  It's called Winter Sowing and it's a gamechanger for gardeners!

Method #1: WINTER SOWING

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Seeds Soil Empty Milk/Juice Jugs Hot Glue Gun Knife Duct Tape Permanent Marker for Labeling

Seeds germinate beautifully in empty juice bottles or milk jugs! The warmth stays in like a mini greenhouse, protecting tender seedlings from the cold.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Make several holes on the bottom of the jug with glue gun.

2. Cut the empty jugs in half.

CAREFULLY!

3. Add soil and seeds.

The Fun Part!

4. Lightly water the seeds.

Almost Done!

5. Tape closed and watch for growth and moisture needs.

Time to Grow!

Germinating seeds in plastic baggies with wet paper towels - in my opinion - is the: - Easiest - Quickest - Cleanest  - Most Successful Method!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Seeds Paper Towels Plastic Baggies Spray Bottle with Water Permanent Marker (for Labeling)

Seeds germinate effortlessly in plastic sandwich baggies!  You can use wet paper towels or coffee filters.  Success rate is usually high!

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Fold a paper towel in half and spray with water.

SPACING:

2. Space out the seeds so they do not touch when folding again.

FOLD & ZIP

3. Fold the paper towel again and zip the baggie closed.

Check for Growth!

4. Check daily or at the 1-week mark for germination!

This traditional seed starting method using soil holds positive memories for many.  Enjoy starting seeds in egg cartons each year!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Seeds Empty Egg Cartons Potting Soil / Mix Spray Bottles with Water Permanent Marker  (for Labeling)

Planting seeds in egg cartons works well and it's FUN! This easy seed starting method is perfect for kids, too! Give everyone their own carton!

1. Fill an empty  egg carton with potting mix.
